Growing pain management practice is seeking a Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner to join their respected medical team.  

 

Summary:

The Physician Assistant  is responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care for some of the most interesting and challenging acute and chronic pain patients. Under a physician’s supervision, the PA is responsible for a broad range of medical services, including but not limited to: autonomously providing patient assessment, education, follow-up visits, and medication management.  As designated by scope of practice guidelines, the supervising physician and his/her designee will be available at all times to the Physician Assistant  for consultation either in person, by telephone, or paging device. The PA will be provided with a schedule of the supervising physician and his/her availability for consultation.

 

General Duties and Responsibilities (performed in an independent manner with minimal direction and supervision):

·        Obtains Patient medical history and conducts physical examinations for Patients, as assigned by the supervising physician.

·        Conducts new consult and follow-up visits consistent with the organization’s scheduling guidelines.

·        Develops medical care plans under physician supervision, including implementing treatment plans and periodically assessing medical needsand responses to treatment.

 

Treatment plans may include:

 

o   Interventional pain modalities

o   Joint injections

o   Peripheral nerve injections

o   Trigger point injections

o   Diagnostic Testing

o   Physical therapy

o   Medication Management

o   Other specialty referrals

 

·       Relates all aspects of Patient care to the supervising physician, including reviewing and discussing medical problems, diagnostic tests, andtherapeutic procedures; or correlating measures employed by the supervising physician.

·Plays a major role in medication management and medication refill management.

·Initiates and monitors medications and treatment in accordance with the current standards of care.

·Orders diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedure/studies as appropriate, to include, but not limited to:

 

o   Brace/splint

o   Epidural steroid blocks

o   Sacroiliac joint injections

o   Joint injections

o   Facet injections

o   Radiofrequency denervation

o   EMG/NCS

o   Labs

o   X-ray, MRI, CT scan

o   Myelogram

o   Discogram

o   Dexa scans

o   Orthotics/lifts

o   Physical therapy/ occupational therapy

o   Sleep study

 

 

·Performs approved clinical procedures after appropriate training, such as:

 

o   Trigger point injections

o   Joint aspirations / injections

o   Uncomplicated wound care

o   Ace wrap / splinting and bandaging

o   Needle-guided ultrasound

o   Injection of tendon, bursa, ligament

 

·        Provides pre and post procedure education and counseling for all patients undergoing invasive or non- invasive requirements.

·        Takes primary call for the entire practice in rotation with all the providers (PA’s and physicians) throughout the year.

·        Maintains all licenses and certifications necessary to comply with all state and local requirements.

·        Familiarity with Medicare, TRICARE, and other commercial insurance coverage; as well as some knowledge of Patient E&M coding, billing, and claims.

·        Understands, complies with, and enforces practices policies, procedures, code of conduct, and OSHA and HIPAA privacy rules.

·        May be asked to work in different/multiple office locations on a periodic or ongoing basis, depending on organization needs.

·        Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and possess the knowledge, skills and abilities represented below:

 

Educations/Experience/Knowledge:

·       Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner education program.

·            Excellent patient care skills and awareness of the legal implications of work and words in healthcare.

·       General knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
