Lewiston, Maine: We invite a compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join a big PEDIATRICS practice in Maine’s second largest city, just 40 minutes from Portland. This highly respected private group dominates the pediatric market in this region – providing care for infants through teens and young adults. They have a busy outpatient practice, with more than a dozen providers practicing in their kid-friendly standalone building, and their pediatricians also provide care for inpatients and attend births in two Lewiston hospitals.
A flexible schedule is available – your choice of part time (3 days/30 hours per week) or full time (4 days/40 hours). Newer providers are encouraged to apply. This is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
At present, two Physician Assistants provide mental health care and medication management for their patients. Since Covid hit, local resources have experienced a decrease in their capacity to provide mental health services for young people. In response, this group is adding another practitioner to support more patients with childhood behavioral issues, and an increasing number of adolescents and young adults who need care in areas such as depression, crisis management and addiction.
You will have an important and rewarding outpatient-only role working with these patients and their families, providing assessments, diagnostics and treatment plans along with counseling and med management. Enjoy practicing in a spacious, modern facility with fully integrated EMR and an experienced support staff. Join a community where caring for young people will have a measurable impact!
You will earn a competitive base salary plus a benefits package that includes paid liability insurance, paid license costs, health and dental insurance, plenty of earned time plus paid holidays, paid leave plus a budget for your CME, and more. Student loan assistance is also available.
Lewiston and it’s “across the river” neighbor Auburn are home to over 120,000 people and make up one of Maine’s largest and most diverse population centers. This bustling community offers dozens of local dining options, from chain restaurants to unique homegrown eateries, diners, ethnic restaurants and wonderful seafood places. Enjoy shopping in specialty boutiques, numerous big-box stores, and shopping malls. The local arts scene is broad, and includes a live-stage community, movie theaters, and several flavors of live music too.
Maine’s four-season climate and diverse geography support many recreational pursuits. Enjoy local trails for hiking and biking, and lakes and streams for fishing, kayaking and sailing. Golf is popular, with over a dozen nearby courses. A short drive leads to some of Maine's top ski and snowboarding resorts – and Lost Valley, right in Auburn, is a fun and affordable family ski facility. Other winter sports include cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and snowshoeing. Lewiston’s city recreation program offers organized sports, indoor and outdoor, youth and adult. Lewiston hosts a huge family-friendly Balloon Festival that draws thousands to a downtown park near the famous waterfalls on the Androscoggin River every summer.
Bates College in Lewiston is New England's first (and longest enduring) coeducational college, ranked by US News & World Report as a “Best Liberal Arts College” and “Best Value in America” by the Princeton Review. Bates hosts students from nearly every state and over 60 countries, regularly receiving ten times more applications than freshman slots.
Residential opportunities include in-town homes and options in several suburbs. Waterfront living is available too, on area lakes or rivers, or enjoy country living with acreage available just minutes outside of town. You will find many friendly and welcoming neighborhoods with strong public and private schools.
Nearby Portland is easily accessible from Lewiston via freeway. One of the most desirable cities in New England, this harbor town has a thriving social scene centered around the popular Old Port district. With literally hundreds of restaurants, Portland is a renown “foodie” city, winning multiple awards for quality eateries and the diversity of their offerings. The International Jetport is a convenient resource serving several major and discount airlines. Portland hosts several semipro sports teams, numerous museums, the state’s largest mall, and a busy harbor, too, with ferry service to several nearby islands. All these amenities will be in easy reach.
